The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is being held in Vegas this week. Â I attended the show for years during a previous life, and loved seeing the new technology and the new gadgets. Â Not much exciting had come from the show in the last several years, but yesterday, Lenovo demoed a really cool product, their Hybrid Laptop, called the IdeaPad U1. Â I predict this will become a new category of PCs and will offer greater workability.

The Hybrid is a normal laptop computer, except there is a detachable screen, which becomes its own separate tablet computer. Â Both pieces have its own processor and operating system, making it two machines in one. They synch seamlessly allowing you to use it as a laptop or a portable tablet. Â 3G is built-in. Â The battery will support about five hours of 3G web browsing. Â With two speakers, a video camera, and a microphone, it will sell for less than $1,000. Â Very cool. Â Its the first non-Apple machine I have wanted in a long time……

Forbes has a pretty good video that shows some of the features of the machine.
